Reported speech (dolaylı anlatım) nedir, nasıl kurulur?

Son güncelleme: Tahmini okuma süresi: 5 dk.

Reported speech (indirect speech, dolaylı anlatım), birinin söylediğini kendi sözleriyle değil, içeriğiyle aktarmaktır. Oxford Advanced American Dictionary bunu “a report of what someone has said that does not use their exact words” diye tanımlar: “I’m tired,” Ali said. → Ali said (that) he was tired. Aktarma fiili (said, told, asked) geçmiş zamandaysa, aktarılan cümlenin zamanı çoğunlukla bir adım geriye kayar.

Aktarma fiili çoğunlukla simple past zamanındadır; en sık kullanılanı said fiilidir. Aktarma bölümü başta da sonda da olabilir: Selin said, “I’ll call you tonight.” / “I’ll call you tonight,” Selin said.
  • Dolaylı anlatım sözlerin içeriğini aktarır; tırnak kullanılmaz: Selin said she would call me that night.

Bildirimsay / tell + (that) + cümle: “I’m busy.” → He told me (that) he was busy.
Evet-hayır sorusuask + if / whether + özne + fiil: “Are you hungry?” → She asked if I was hungry.
Soru kelimesiyle soruask + soru kelimesi + özne + fiil: “Where do you work?” → He asked me where I worked.
Emir, öğüt, uyarıtell / order / advise / warn + kişi + to + fiil: “Sit down.” → The teacher told us to sit down.
Olumsuz emirtell / warn + kişi + not to + fiil: “Don’t touch it.” → She told him not to touch it.
  • That sık sık düşürülür, özellikle gündelik dilde: He told me he was busy.
  • Aktarılan soru, soru düzeninde değil, düz cümle düzenindedir (önce özne, sonra fiil) ve sonuna soru işareti konmaz: He asked me where I worked. (“where did I work?” değil). Evet-hayır sorularında if daha sık kullanılır, whether daha az.

Zaman kayması (backshift)

Söylendiği an ile aktarıldığı an arasında zaman geçtiği için, aktarma fiili geçmiş zamandayken fiiller çoğunlukla bir adım geriye kayar:

Doğrudan anlatımdaDolaylı anlatımda
simple present: “I live in Bursa.”simple past: She said she lived in Bursa.
present continuous: “I’m working.”past continuous: He said he was working.
present perfect: “I’ve finished.”past perfect: She said she had finished.
simple past: “I missed the bus.”past perfect: He said he had missed the bus.
will: “I’ll help you.”would: She said she would help me.
can: “I can drive.”could: He said he could drive.
may (olasılık): “I may miss the meeting.”might: She said she might miss the meeting.
must (zorunluluk): “You must sign here.”had to: He said I had to sign there.

Could, should, would, might da aynı kalır: “You should rest.” → The doctor said I should rest.

  • Kayma her zaman gerekmez. Söylenen şey hâlâ doğruysa ya da henüz olmamış bir geleceği anlatıyorsa zaman aynı kalabilir: Deniz said her sister works at a bank. (Kız kardeşi hâlâ orada çalışıyor.)
  • Aktarma fiili simple present zamanındaysa (says, tells) zaman kaymaz: Mert says he’s coming tomorrow.

Aktaran kişi ve aktarılan an değiştiği için zamirler ve “bugün, burada” gibi sözler de çoğunlukla değişir: “I’ll see you here tomorrow,” Can said. → Can said he would see me there the next day.

Say mi, tell mi?

  • Say fiilinden sonra kişi doğrudan gelmez; kişi söylenecekse to ile verilir: She said (to me) that she was ready. (“She said me” değil.)
  • Tell fiilinden sonra çoğunlukla kişi gelir: She told me that she was ready. (“She told that …” değil.) Tell the truth, tell a lie, tell a joke kalıplarında kişi gerekmez.
  • Emirleri aktarırken tell + kişi + to kullanılır: They told us to wait. (“They said us to wait” değil.)
  • Doğrudan anlatımda say kullanılır: “Hello,” he said. (“Hello,” he told değil.)

Türkçedeki en yakın karşılığı

Reported speech, Türkçede dolaylı anlatıma karşılık gelir; Türkçe bunu çoğunlukla “-dığını / -acağını söyledi” gibi yapılarla kurar: Ali said he was tired.

→ Selin said she would call me. / “Murat işini bitirdiğini söyledi.” → Murat said he had finished his work.
  • Türkçe aktarılan soruyu da aynı yapıyla kurar: “Nereye gittiğimi sordu.” → She asked me where I was going. / “Hazır olup olmadığımı sordu.” → He asked if I was ready.
→ The teacher told us to sit down.
Bu, İngilizcedeki doğrudan anlatıma yakındır: “I’m tired,” he said.
